AI Education in Hungarian Schools
Artificial intelligence (AI) courses are starting in several Hungarian educational institutions this fall, with the government aiming to integrate them into the regular curriculum of secondary schools by February 2026. This move is a key part of a national strategy designed to rapidly adapt the workforce to changing technology.
Pilot Phase Underway
Hankó Balázs, Minister for Culture and Innovation, announced that AI courses are launching in 60 schools this semester, reaching thousands of students within the existing timetable. The ultimate goal is for all vocational training students to have access to these courses starting in February 2026.
László Palkovics, Government Commissioner for Artificial Intelligence, stated that the new national AI strategy prioritizes education, recognizing that AI offers a crucial opportunity for workers to quickly adapt to technological shifts.
Rapid Integration and Curriculum
There is a need to rapidly introduce AI into the formal school system. Aiming this, a white paper has been developed that details how AI education could be introduced progressively in the 1st, 5th grades of elementary school and 9th grades of high school.
The government will not develop a new curriculum from scratch. Instead, they have partnered with Logiscool, an educational company that already provides extensive training both domestically and internationally. This agreement secures their teaching materials, educational platform, and teacher training for the state schools, starting with vocational institutions.
The government believes that Hungary is among the first countries to employ AI so comprehensively in its educational system.
