Edukafest 2026: From Teaching to Active Learning in Slovakia
On March 24, 2026, the national Edukafest conference took place at the BESST School in Trnava, bringing together teachers and school leaders from across Slovakia, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Education, NIVAM, and the State School Inspectorate. The event offered a range of practical workshops focused on innovation in education and active learning approaches.
One of the workshops, “From Teaching to Active Learning – How Space Influences the Development of Students’ Competencies,” led by Eva Polláková, immersed participants in the principles of the Future Classroom Lab. Teachers actively experienced individual learning zones (Interact, Exchange, Investigate, Create, Develop, Present) and explored methods and forms of active learning in practice.
The workshop was thematically focused on developing 4C competencies—critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Participants worked in teams, engaged in inquiry-based tasks, created outputs, and reflected on their learning process. The experience highlighted how intentional use of learning space can significantly support student engagement and deeper learning.
The workshop built on long-term efforts to implement FCL principles in Slovak schools and demonstrated how even small changes in classroom environment and pedagogy can lead to meaningful impact.
