FCLAB Activities in Finland
Snow:kit Pilot
Eight Finnish FCLabs have been piloting with MakeKit’s technologies. Being from the northern part of Europe, the choice for the pilot was the Snow:bit. The Snow:bit is a propeller driven sled that you code and operate with a micro:bit. The kit is made of laser cut veneer of the finest quality from Finland and you drive it in snow or ice. The pilot consisted of building the sleds, coding them and planning of curriculum-based activities.

The FCLab National Days for the Finnish Ambassadors were held in Jyväskylä on May 6-7, 2024, gathering the networks´ members and partners from across Finland. The event featured training, discussions on current themes, staring new initiatives and sharing of experiences.
Day one focused on collaboration with the Generation AI project and exploring ThingLink’s new innovations. A pilot in this will follow in the Autumn. Day two emphasized immersive and experiential learning at Jyväskylä Teacher Training School’s immersive high school classroom. The agenda also included exchanges with the National Agency of Education, demonstrations and trials of VinciBot, and updates on the Digivisio 2030 project. The days concluded with a review of FCLab’s action plan for the 2024-2025 academic year.

FCLab continued with the VinciBots at the Amazing North event. The Amazing North is a STEAM-initiative that gathers over 4000 students and teachers. With the VinciBots, we were able to introduce the basics of programming in a fun and interactive way, inspiring many to try and learn something new. Additionally, we had the opportunity to talk about the FCLab project and its goals of combining technology and education. The event was full of energy and a spirit of collaboration.
