Finnish Architects Visit Flanders: Exploring innovative and sustainable learning environments

In June, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of Finnish architects, educators, and a Flemish school principal to Flanders for an inspiring study visit. Over several days, we explored five innovative school buildings, each designed with a strong focus on pedagogy and sustainability.

What united these schools was their thoughtful design, where architecture and educational vision go hand in hand. Each building supports flexible learning, promotes the well-being of students and teachers, and reflects a commitment to a sustainable future. The Finnish visitors were particularly impressed by how Flemish schools create learning environments that are not only functional but also foster collaboration, creativity, and calm.

Beyond the architectural aspects, the visit sparked rich discussions about the pedagogical principles behind each space. The exchange between Flemish and Finnish participants highlighted the powerful role that learning environments play in shaping education.
