Innovative Education in Norway: A Year of Workshops and Events

This spring has been bustling with innovative FCL events and workshops in Norway. Also for the autumn interesting events have been planned, focusing on the latest trends and technologies in education.


SOME PAST EVENTS

3D Printing for Teachers (Beginners) - April 25, 2024

This workshop introduced teachers (grades 5 and up) to the basics of 3D printing. Participants had the opportunity to design and print their own products, sparking creativity and hands-on learning.

The Machine - Exploratory Teaching - April 23, 2024

Teachers of grades 5-10 learned how to create a Rube Goldberg machine. This session focused on fostering exploratory and experiential learning through fun and complex contraptions.

Language Models for Beginners (AI) - March 5, 2024

A beginner’s introduction to large language models like ChatGPT, this workshop was designed to help teachers understand and utilize AI tools in the classroom.

Microbit and Artificial Intelligence - February 27, 2024

Participants explored the intersection of microbits and AI, learning how these small devices can be used to teach fundamental AI concepts.

Programming and Embroidery - January 30, 2024

This unique workshop combined technology with traditional craft, teaching about programmable embroidery machines.

First Lego League Practice Preparation

Training sessions were held using Lego Spike Prime, aimed at primary school teacher education. This hands-on experience prepared educators to engage students in STEM activities.

Official Opening of Gamelab

A gaming day was organized for the entire campus, where students were introduced to various games and competed against each other. This event celebrated the integration of gaming into educational contexts, promoting interactive and fun learning experiences.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

August 2024: Launch manual game-based learning

The Didactic Digital Educational Lab (DDV) at the University of Stavanger will launch an English-translated game-based learning guidance manual for teachers in August 2024. This manual aims to support educators in effectively integrating game-based learning into their teaching practices.

September 10, 2024: FCL Norway Conference in Sogndal

  • Topic: "Artificial Intelligence in Education - Pitfalls and Opportunities"
  • Special Guest: Sarah W. Newman, Director of Art & Education at metaLAB at Harvard and Co-Founder of The Data Nutrition Project.
