Make Your Own Christmas Sweater with E-Textiles
Before Christmas, our teacher students turn the Future Classroom Lab into a creative workshop — combining programming, design and craftsmanship in one sparkling project. The task? To bring an ordinary sweater to life using e-textiles.
E-textiles merge the logic of an electrician with the creativity of a designer. Instead of sewing with regular thread, students use conductive thread to connect small LED lights, batteries, and sensors. Some create simple light circuits, while others experiment with micro:bit controllers that react to movement or light. In this way, they explore how coding, circuitry and aesthetics can be woven together — quite literally.
The activity is more than just a fun holiday project. It helps future teachers understand how technology and creativity can meet in cross-curricular learning — linking art & crafts, science, and mathematics through hands-on experimentation. It’s a festive reminder that learning in the digital age can be both playful and profound.
