With this initiative, the University of Burgos becomes the first university in Castilla y León and the sixth in Spain to receive the Sello Aula del Futuro, a quality recognition awarded by INTEF. This distinction recognises educational institutions that demonstrate a strong commitment to active methodologies, flexible learning spaces and the transformative use of digital technologies.

The new space is organised around different pedagogical action zones — Develop, Explore, Interact, Present, Create and Investigate — enabling future teachers to work collaboratively, experiment, design learning experiences, produce digital content and present their results. Its flexible furniture and technological resources, including virtual reality equipment, robotics, audiovisual production tools and a chroma key area, are not an end in themselves, but a means to support new ways of teaching and learning.

The opening of this Future Classroom Lab is especially relevant because it brings the Aula del Futuro model into initial teacher education. Future teachers need to experience, analyse and design learning in spaces that reflect the transformation already taking place in schools: more collaborative, inclusive, creative and competence-based environments where technology is used with clear pedagogical purposes.

At the same time, the initiative strengthens the link between Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). By connecting university training with the approaches promoted through the Future Classroom Lab network, the University of Burgos helps build continuity between the preparation of new teachers and the ongoing professional learning of practising educators, bridging the gap between initial teacher preparation and lifelong professional development.

The Aula del Futuro at the University of Burgos is therefore more than a physical classroom. It is a space for innovation, research, experimentation and collaboration, aimed at inspiring future teachers and supporting a broader transformation of educational practice.
